sprunki phase 190
So I tried Sprunki Phase 190... and my ears are confused
Right, so Phase 190. Honestly, I didn't even know there WERE 190 phases until this popped up. Someone at the Sprunki factory must have been drinking too much coffee or something, because this version is... well, let's just say it's an experience.
You know how most Sprunki games have that familiar feel? Like, you recognize some sounds from previous versions? Yeah, forget that here. Phase 190 feels like they took all the unused sound effects from the past 189 phases, threw them in a blender, and then recorded the blender while it was dying. In a good way! Maybe.
I was playing this yesterday while it was raining outside—perfect mood, right?—and kept thinking \"what IS that sound?\" There's one that genuinely sounds like a fax machine having an existential crisis. Another like someone crumpling plastic bags in slow motion. My cat gave me the most judgmental look when I played the 'bubble pop' sequence too many times.
How to actually make something that doesn't sound awful
Okay, so here's the thing: Phase 190 can either sound like avant-garde electronic music or complete noise. There's no in-between. After like, half an hour of clicking randomly (and annoying my aforementioned cat), I found a combo that's actually kinda cool:
Start with the purple dude in the top left—he makes this deep hum that's less annoying than most. Then add the green zigzag thing two slots over. Wait, is it green or teal? I'm colorblind-ish so don't trust me on colors. Anyway, that one adds a rhythm that's actually followable.
The third icon... honestly, pick whatever. The yellow star? The blue squiggle? At this point it's all chaos anyway. I think I used the one that looks like a broken spring and it made this 'boing-whoosh' noise that somehow worked.
Seriously though, the character design in this version is wild. There's one that looks like a melted ice cream cone with eyes. Why? No idea. But its sound is surprisingly melodic compared to how it looks.
Who is this even for?
If you're new to Sprunki, maybe don't start here. It's like learning to drive in a Formula 1 car. But if you've played like, Sprunki Phase 3 or Phase 9 Scratch and think \"I want something weirder\"... congratulations, you found it.
My friend Dave—who claims to have 'experimental music taste'—said it sounded \"like a robot learning to beatbox while malfunctioning.\" He meant it as a compliment, I think?
The visuals are... busy. Really busy. Every character has like three animations going at once. Sometimes I can't tell if something is part of the game or just my screen glitching.
Actually wait, that might have been an actual glitch. The game froze for a second when I dragged the pizza-looking icon onto the speaker-looking thing. Pizza speaker? Sure, why not.
Oh, and there's no save feature that I could find. So if you make something that doesn't sound like abstract noise, maybe screen record it? Or just accept that all digital art is temporary, or whatever.
Random thoughts while playing
• The pink cloud makes a noise that's 90% air, 10% tone. It's weirdly satisfying.
• Why do three of the characters look like office supplies? There's definitely a stapler.
• I tried to make it sound like wind chimes. Failed spectacularly. Sounded more like dropping silverware.
• Actually, the dropping silverware version was kind of rhythmic if you squint your ears.
• My phone's at 12% battery while writing this. The game drained it faster than usual.
• Update: phone died. Continuing on laptop.
Honestly, Phase 190 feels like someone's passion project that got released by accident. Or on purpose to confuse people. Either way, it's here, it's free, and it's definitely memorable.
Would I play it again? Maybe when I'm in that specific mood where normal music feels too predictable. Or when I want to annoy my cat. 3.5/5 stars for sheer audacity alone.
PS: If you figure out what the rainbow spiral thing does, let me know. I clicked it twelve times and still have no clue.
