When Fans Take Over: The Unofficial Sprunki
You know how every game has that "fan version" that's somehow both jankier and more interesting than the original? Welcome to Sprunki Fan Made.
It's raining outside as I write this—perfect weather for messing with fan creations that feel a bit... homemade. In a good way! Like when your friend shows you their art and it's not "professional" but it has soul, you know?
What Even Is This?
So apparently someone (or multiple someones) decided to make their own Sprunki characters and sounds. This isn't like the official Sprunki Phase 3 or whatever. The art styles don't match. Some characters look like they were drawn in MS Paint (affectionately). One looks suspiciously like a meme face I saw on Reddit last week.
And the sounds! Oh man. There's this one that's clearly someone going "bloop" into a microphone. Not processed, just... bloop. I respect the honesty.
My 5-minute coffee break experiment:
1. Opened game
2. Clicked the thing that looks like a cat? Maybe a fox?
3. Added the rainbow-haired character
4. Threw in the geometric shape that makes a "wubwub" noise
Result: Something my 8-year-old nephew would call "fire" unironically.
The Charm of Imperfection
Here's the thing about fan games: they're allowed to be weird. One character here has a sound that's just someone tapping a pencil. Another is what I can only describe as "dial-up modem having feelings."
Q: Is this better than official Sprunki games?
A: That's like asking if a homemade cookie is better than bakery cookies. Sometimes yes, because your friend made it. Sometimes no, because they burned it. This is... medium-rare.
Q: Can I use this to make actual music?
A> If your definition of "music" includes experimental noise collage, then absolutely. I wouldn't score a film with it, but for a TikTok? Maybe. If the TikTok is about chaos.
Personal anecdote time: I showed this to my sibling who doesn't game. Their response: "Why does that one look sad?" pointing at a character with droopy eyes. I didn't have an answer. Some mysteries remain.
If You Only Have 3 Icons...
Let's say you're in a rush (story of my life). Which three to pick from this mishmash?
My go-to "weird but works" combo:
1. The blue character with star eyes (makes a shimmer sound)
2. The green... plant thing? (makes a growing "sproing" noise)
3. The pixelated ghost (makes a filtered "woooo" that's more cute than scary)
Together they sound like a video game power-up sequence from 1998. In a good way. Maybe.
Community Vibes
Playing this feels like browsing DeviantArt in 2010. There's passion here. Someone spent time designing these characters, recording these sounds (or finding royalty-free ones and tweaking them). It's not slick like Sprunki Pyramixed with its polished interface. The UI is functional at best.
But there's something endearing about that. Like finding a zine at a local concert versus buying a magazine at a store.
Things that made me smile:
- One character winks when you click it. Just... winks.
- The color palette is all over the place. Neon pink next to pastel blue.
- There's a sound that's literally just a coin dropping. Why? Who knows. It's there.
Final Thoughts (Written While Procrastinating)
If you search "sprunki fan made" or "sprunki oc" (original character, for the uninitiated), this is what you wanted. It's rough. It's unpolished. It's clearly made by someone who loves Sprunki enough to make their own version.
Will it replace the official games? No.
Is it worth 10 minutes of your time to see what fans dream up? Absolutely.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars for effort, 3 out of 5 for execution, and 5 out of 5 for "making me curious who made this and what their story is."
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to make something that sounds like a robot learning to laugh. Or maybe just go back to the Phase 4 definitive edition that I actually understand. Choices.
