sprunki swap retextured phase 1
Okay so I tried this Sprunki Swap Retextured thing...
My friend sent me this link yesterday saying "you gotta try this weird version" and honestly? It's... different. Not bad different, just... you know when you rearrange your room and everything feels slightly off? That's this game.
First thing you'll notice - the characters look kinda... swapped? Like someone took the original sprites and ran them through a cheap Photoshop filter. The blue one now has green highlights, the red one looks more orange-ish. I'm not an artist so don't ask me about color theory or whatever.
But here's the thing - the SOUNDS are mostly the same? I think? Maybe slightly pitched differently? My ears aren't that good. My roommate says the beatbox sound is "cleaner" but I can't tell if he's just making that up.
How to actually make something with it
If you've played any Sprunki before, you know the drill. Drag, drop, listen. If you haven't... well:
1. Click on any character slot (there's 7, I counted this time)
2. Pick a character from the bottom row
3. They start making noise automatically
4. Keep adding until it sounds like... something
Today it's raining outside my window so I tried to make rain sounds. Failed spectacularly. Ended up with something that sounds more like a broken dishwasher. Which is... oddly satisfying?
Random observations nobody asked for
The green character's sound annoys me. It's too... tinny? Metallic? I don't know the right word. But my friend loves it. We almost argued about it over coffee this morning. "It adds texture!" he says. I say it sounds like someone hitting a metal trash can.
Also - I swear the tempo feels slightly faster than the original Sprunki Swap. Or maybe I just had too much coffee. Don't quote me on this.
Quick comparison (my opinion only)
Better than the super basic versions? Yeah, more options.
Worse than Sprunki Pyramixed? Obviously, that one's insane.
Good for killing 10 minutes between Zoom calls? Absolutely.
The retextured visuals... I mean, they're fine? I don't play these games for the graphics anyway. It's all about the sounds, and most of them are still the classic Sprunki sounds we know. Just... rearranged. Like musical chairs.
Questions I had while playing
• Can I save my creation? (Doesn't look like it, just screenshot it I guess)
• Why are there so many Sprunki variations anyway? (Don't ask me, I just play them)
• Is this version still being updated? (Probably not, feels like a one-off mod)
Final verdict: 3.5/5 stars. It's fine. Not revolutionary, but if you're bored of the original and want something that feels "almost the same but different," give it a shot. Takes like 2 minutes to figure out.
Oh and pro tip: The purple character + the orange one together make a decent bassline. The rest is up to you. Or don't listen to me - I'm the person who thought adding all 7 characters at once was a good idea (it wasn't, it's chaos).
Anyway. It's 4:17 PM as I write this. Still raining. My "rain sound" attempt now sounds like a robot having a seizure. I'm keeping it.
