sprunki phase 9 horror
So, I Tried to Make a Haunted Music Box at 2 AM
This is a confession. I loaded up Sprunki Phase 9 Horror last night because I couldn’t sleep. Big mistake? Maybe. The vibe is… different. It’s not “jump scare” horror. It’s that low-grade, persistent unease. The colors are washed out, the icons move kinda jerkily sometimes. There’s a constant, barely-there static in the background if you listen closely. Or maybe that’s just my headphones.
My goal was stupid: make a creepy but soothing music box tune. Something to maybe, ironically, fall asleep to. You know, embrace the weird.
I started with the cracked bell icon (obvious choice). Then added the whispering loop thing. It was going okay—kind of a sad, wind-chime-in-a-graveyard feel. Then I got curious about the glitchy, pixelated face icon in the corner. The one that looks like a corrupted PNG. I clicked it.
Bad idea. Or great idea. It didn’t add a sound… at first. Then, after about 10 seconds of my sad music box loop, a really low, distorted giggle played. Just once. I almost jumped. I swear it wasn’t part of the original loop. Easter egg? Glitch? My sleep-deprived brain? No clue. Couldn’t get it to happen again exactly the same way. Maybe you have to click it in a specific order? The internet is weirdly quiet about this.
It’s Weirdly… Relaxing?
Paradox, right? A horror-themed thing being relaxing. But after the initial “what was that?” moment, the overall murkiness of it all is kinda calming. Like a rainy, grey day. There’s no pressure to make a banger. Anything you make just sounds… appropriately off. There’s a freedom in that.
My final “creepy lullaby” sounded less like a music box and more like the ambient noise from a server room in a forgotten office building. Which, honestly? I’ll take it. It worked. I zoned out staring at the screen for like 20 minutes.
Weird flex for a Sprunki game, but okay.
If you’re coming from the bright, poppy versions, this will be a shock. If you’ve ever played something like… I don’t know, that weird PS1 horror demo from the 90s, you’ll get the aesthetic. It’s niche. I’m not even sure if I “like” it. But I keep thinking about it today, so it did something.
Try it late. With the lights low. And report back if you find the giggle. Or any other secrets in the static. I need to know I’m not crazy.
...or maybe I just need sleep.
