Sprunki Phase 9 Fan Definitive
So Someone Made a "Definitive" Version of Phase 9. Okay.
Look, I'm not saying I've played every Sprunki mod out there, but when a friend linked me this "Fan Definitive" thing for Phase 9, my first thought was "how much more definitive can it get?" The original Phase 9 was already pretty packed. Turns out, "definitive" here mostly means "we added some stuff and maybe tweaked some sounds." Which is... fine? Actually, it's pretty fun for a 15-minute coffee break.
Today feels like a good day for messing with these. It's raining outside my window, and the pitter-patter is weirdly inspiring for trying to make... well, not rain sounds, that's impossible here, but something with a steady drip-drip rhythm.
The "New" Stuff (Or: What Did They Actually Change?)
Right off the bat, the interface looks familiar. Same seven slots. But some of the little dudes look... different? I think one of them got a hat. Or maybe it's always had a hat and I never noticed. The sound when you drag them in has a slightly deeper "thump" to it. Maybe that's the "definitive" part? Deeper thumps.
I have a love-hate relationship with the green character in most Sprunki versions. Here, it's... tolerable. Its sound is less like a screech and more like a digital frog. An improvement, honestly. My friend swears by the blue one with the sunglasses (new? borrowed from another mod?), says it's the secret sauce for any good loop. I think it just sounds like a synth having an identity crisis.
Here's a dumb but effective combo I stumbled on while waiting for my actual coffee to brew:
- Drop the orange guy (looks like a flame) in slot 1. He does this clicky perc thing.
- The blue sunglasses dude in slot 3. The "identity crisis" synth.
- Skip slot 5 entirely—I never know what to do with the middle.
- The red one in slot 7. Makes a bass "wub" that ties it together.
Does it sound good? Debatable. Does it sound like a robot trying to lullaby itself to sleep? Absolutely. 10/10 for weirdness.
Is It Worth Your Time Compared to... Y'know, Other Stuff?
Q: How is this different from the regular Phase 9 or, say, sprunki pyramixed?
A: Less chaotic than Pyramixed. More... polished? than the raw Phase 9. It feels like someone's "director's cut" of a movie you already kinda liked. Some scenes are extended, the color grading is different, but it's the same story.
Q: Can you make actual, listenable music?
A: Define "listenable." Can you make a 30-second loop that doesn't make your cat leave the room? Probably. I managed something that vaguely resembled the intro to an old video game I can't remember the name of. Then I added the "frog" sound and ruined it. Classic.
Personally, I think the appeal of these fan "definitive" versions isn't about being objectively better. It's about the vibe. This one has a slightly... mellower vibe? Even when the beats are busy. Maybe it's the color palette. More pastels.
Weird tip: Try building your loop from right to left instead of left to right. Changes the feel completely for some reason. Don't ask me why, I'm not a scientist.
Oh, and they definitely fixed (or broke?) the thing where if you spam-click a character it glitches. Now it just ignores you after three clicks. Rude, but fair.
Final, completely unprofessional verdict: It's a solid 4 out of 5 "meh, okay, I'll play it again"s. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it puts some nice hubcaps on it. If you've exhausted the official phases and the really out-there stuff like sprunki swap retextured, this is a comfortable, slightly-enhanced pit stop.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to see if I can make this thing sound even remotely like the rain outside. My prediction: failure. But the attempt is the whole point, right?
P.S. I still haven't counted all the sounds. Are there really 7 per character? Feels like less sometimes. Memory is fuzzy.
