Platformer Maker: Build, Share, Play—Complete Level Editor
Platformer Maker transcends simple gaming; it is a full-fledged level editor and playable sandbox. Achieving Top Loved and Curated status, this 2016 project by @Scratch739201 (with bug fixes by @jokebookservice1) remains a reference point for browser-based game creation.
Extensive Block Library
Choose from over 20 interactive blocks: gray terrain, deadly red spikes, jump-enabling blue, eraser, sticky green, level-complete yellow, water, directional pullers (left/right/up), slippery ice, paired portals (violet with green/red dot), key/door logic, no-jump zones, check-point flags, and key-destroying red boxes. Each block carries unique physical properties.
Granular Editing & Code Sharing
Click to place; W/S cycles palette; Spacebar swaps editor/play modes; M relocates spawn point; number keys 1-9 or the paint bucket alter player color; I reveals block metadata. Press C to encode your level into a shareable string; press L to paste and load any community code. The companion site https://platformer-maker.github.io/ aggregates user levels and hosts submission forms.
Version Milestones
July-September 2016 introduced side-bar tools, music/background toggles, portal scanning, player color customization, check-points, lose-key blocks, and dozens of stability patches. An always-visible information bar provides contextual help. This tool empowers educators, hobbyists, and speedrunners alike to prototype 2D platformers without leaving the browser.
