Sprunki Phase 24 Remix
Okay So They Remixed Sprunki Phase 24... And It's Weird
Right after I wrote about the regular Phase 24, I noticed there's a "Remix" version. Of course there is. Because why not remix a game that's already about remixing sounds?
It's like musical Inception. Or something. My brain isn't working at full capacity today – I stayed up too late watching bad TV.
First impression: The colors are... brighter? Or maybe more neon? The blue character that was kind of chill in the original now looks like it drank three energy drinks. The energy is different.
What Actually Changed?
So I loaded it up expecting just cosmetic changes. Nope.
The sounds are... tweaked. Not completely different, but like someone took the original files and ran them through a filter. That purple fax machine robot from the original? Now it sounds like a fax machine that's ALSO a dolphin. Higher pitch, more echo.
Actually wait – there's a completely new character. The pink one with what looks like antennae? I don't remember that in the original. It makes this glitchy static sound that's either genius or annoying. I can't decide. My roommate walked by and said "what IS that noise" which I think means it's working.
Here's my chaotic testing method:
- Clicked everything once (standard procedure)
- Tried to recreate my "malfunctioning coffee maker rap" from the original
- Failed miserably
- Got distracted by the yellow icon that now sounds like a video game power-up from 1998
Q: Is this better than the original?
A: It's not better or worse. It's... louder. More aggressive? The original was like lo-fi beats to study to. This is like lo-fi beats to mildly panic to.
Actually, that's not fair. It's fun in its own way. Just don't go in expecting the same vibe.
Weird Discovery
If you drag the green icon onto the blue icon (instead of just placing them next to each other) they sort of... merge? Or at least the sound changes. It might be a bug. It might be intentional. The internet doesn't know, and I'm certainly not an expert.
Personal hot take: The brown icon that I hated in the original? Slightly improved here. Still sounds like a kazoo, but like... a kazoo played by someone who practiced.
Also, the background animation is faster. Or maybe I just had more coffee today. Hard to tell.
Real Talk for a Second
Why do these games keep coming out with "remix" and "definitive" and "deluxe" versions? Who's asking for this?
...Me, apparently. Because I keep playing them.
If the original Phase 24 felt like 7/10 on the weirdness scale, this remix is a solid 8.5. Not quite the absolute chaos of something like Sprunki Pyramixed (which I still don't fully understand), but definitely turned up.
Best combo I found by accident: Pink new thing + orange bird (still a bird? maybe) + purple dolphin-fax. Sounds like a robot learning to yodel.
Worst combo: Everything at once. Just... noise. Beautiful, chaotic noise.
Final thought: It's fine. Good for when you've played the original enough times that it starts to feel predictable. Will I remember this version exists in a month? Probably not. But it killed 20 minutes of my afternoon, and for that I'm grateful.
Also I just noticed one of the icons looks vaguely like a potato. No sound commentary, just... it's there.
