sprunki definitive phase 9.5 fanmade characters
Okay This One Is Actually Different
Most "fanmade" Sprunki versions tweak a few sounds, add a character or two, maybe change some colors. This one? Phase 9.5 with "fanmade characters"? They went whole hog. Every single character looks like someone's DeviantArt OC come to life.
And I mean that in the best way possible. Mostly.
It's like walking into a convention hall where everyone decided to redesign the same set of characters independently, and then someone mashed all the designs together. There's no visual consistency. There's probably no audio consistency either. And that's... kind of amazing?
The "What Even Is That?" Experience
Playing this version is an exercise in constant surprise. You drag a character that looks like a cartoon teacup into a slot, and it makes a sound like a distorted guitar riff. You add something that resembles a neon jellyfish, and it adds what can only be described as "electronic whale noises."
There's no guessing what anything will do based on how it looks. The usual Sprunki visual shorthand is completely gone. That purple blob that usually makes bass sounds? Here it might be a detailed drawing of a fantasy creature that produces wind chime sounds. Or laser beams. Or both.
I spent at least ten minutes just dragging characters in and out, laughing at how completely wrong my predictions were every single time.
Making Something Actually Cohesive (Failed Attempt)
I tried to use only three characters to make something that didn't sound like complete chaos. Here's what happened:
Character A: Looks like a detailed knight helmet. Sounds like... a glitchy record scratch with reverb?
Character B: Appears to be a floating island with a tiny tree. Sound: deep atmospheric hum.
Character C: Some kind of robotic fox. Sound: rhythmic electronic beeps.
Put together? It sounded like a sci-fi movie trailer for a film that doesn't exist. Not necessarily bad, but definitely not "cohesive" in any traditional sense.
Comparison With The Usual Suspects
If you come here expecting something like sprunki pyramixed or even the regular sprunki definitive phase 9, you're going to be confused. This isn't a polished product. This is a community art project that happens to make noise.
It reminds me more of those sprunki oc searches people do - where they're looking for original character designs. Except here, someone actually made them functional.
Vs. the super-popular sprunki retake that everyone seems obsessed with? That one feels like a professional remix. This feels like a zine. Both have value, just... different values.
The "One Minute Madness" Actually Kinda Works Here
Because nothing makes sense anyway, throwing characters together randomly in 60 seconds produces results that are... well, they're not worse than what you get with careful planning. Possibly better, because you're not fighting against expectations.
I timed myself. Grabbed three characters that looked completely unrelated (a geometric shape, what might be a dragon, and something that defies description). Slapped them in. The result? A chaotic, glitchy, surprisingly rhythmic mess that I enjoyed way more than I should have.
Maybe that's the secret to this version: abandon all hope of making "good" music. Embrace the beautiful chaos.
Questions That Don't Really Have Answers
Who made these characters?
Probably multiple people. I recognize some art styles from Sprunki community forums. Others look completely new. It's a collage of fan labor, which is cool when you think about it.
Do the designs match the sounds?
HAHAHA no. Not even a little. And that's part of the fun. The disconnect is the feature, not the bug.
Can you make actual music with this?
Define "actual." If you mean "structured compositions with clear melody and rhythm," probably not easily. If you mean "interesting soundscapes that could be used as background for something else," absolutely.
Why 9.5?
Why not? The .5 implies it's between things. Not quite Phase 9, not quite Phase 10. A liminal space. Fitting for something this... unclassifiable.
Personal Preferences (Because Everyone Has Them)
I'm weirdly fond of the character that looks like a detailed drawing of a cassette tape with vines growing out of it. Its sound is this warm, slightly wobbly synth line that feels nostalgic in a way I can't explain.
I actively avoid the one that looks like an anime character redesign - not because of the sound (which is fine), but because the art style clashes so violently with everything else it breaks my brain a little.
There's also one that's just... geometric shapes in neon colors. No attempt at being a "character" at all. Its sound is pure 8-bit arcade noise. It feels like a meta-commentary on the whole concept. Or maybe I'm overthinking it. Probably overthinking it.
Should You Try It?
If you're tired of the same old Sprunki experience and want something that feels genuinely different - yes. Absolutely.
If you're looking for a polished, balanced, "professional" music creation tool - maybe look at something else.
This version is messy, inconsistent, unpredictable, and occasionally brilliant in its weirdness. It's the musical equivalent of a thrift store where everything is priced the same but the quality ranges from "barely functional" to "unexpected treasure."
I kind of love it for that. Even when it frustrates me.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go try to make something that sounds like a robot interpreting jazz. Or maybe just more beautiful chaos. Either way.
Update 2 hours later: I have not made anything resembling jazz. I have, however, made something that my cat found interesting enough to stop ignoring me for. That's a win in my book.
