Sprunki Phase 1.1.5 Remake: Visiting Your Childhood Home After They"ve Repainted The Kitchen
Phase 1. Right. The beginning. The OG. The one that started this whole weird, wonderful noise-making rabbit hole. I have... fuzzy memories of it. Mostly playing it on a library computer circa whenever. So seeing a "Phase 1.1.5 Remake" pop up felt like seeing an old friend who got a haircut. A bit jarring, but you recognize the smile.
Fired it up this morning while waiting for a massive file to download. Perfect "stuck in limbo" activity.
The Remake Vibe
It"s cleaner. The colors are less... aggressively early-2000s-web. The icons are the same silly shapes, but they look less pixelated on my stupidly high-res monitor. It"s like they took the original sketch and traced over it with a smoother pen.
Goal time: make a silly little thing with only 3 pieces. Went with the triangle, the circle, and the square. The holy trinity of basic shapes. Could I make them sound funny together?
Here"s the thing I forgot about Phase 1: it"s SIMPLE. Not much to "discover" trick-wise. The magic trick is the lack of tricks. You drag, you get sound. The "aha" moment is just layering the three most basic sounds in the right order. Circle first (a hum), then triangle (a blip), then square (a thump). Repeat. It sounds like a robot trying to count to three. It made me grin. Not a laugh, just a dumb grin. Mission accomplished.
You can adjust volumes, which is good because the square"s thump is kinda dominant. Toned it down. Better.
Nostalgia Trip With New Tires
Play session was maybe 5 minutes? I got my dumb grin, then just let it loop while my download finished. It"s the audio equivalent of a fidget spinner.
Easter eggs? In Phase 1? Doubt it. The original was about as hidden as a billboard. This remake feels the same. What you see is what you get. And sometimes, that"s okay. It"s comforting in its simplicity.
It made me think of the Phase 12 Fanmade mess I tried last week. This is its polar opposite. No surprises, no jank, no community in-jokes. Just a solid, slightly updated version of where it all began.
Kinda respect that.
If you"re new? Start here. It won"t overwhelm you. If you"re an old-timer? Play it for the vibes. Like listening to the first album from a band that later got weird. The essence is there, just... shinier.
Final thought: 6.5/10. It does exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less. Points for honesty. Points deducted because part of me missed the rough edges of the original. The new paint smells a bit too much like "new paint."
Side note: The download finished 2 minutes ago. I kept playing. That says something, I guess.
