Sprunki Retake: The “Director’s Cut” of Loop-Making
Remember the original Sprunki? Fun, right? But maybe a little… janky? The sounds could be rough, the animations basic. Enter Sprunki Retake. It’s not a sequel, not a totally new game. It’s more like someone took the original blueprint, sanded down all the rough edges, and added a fresh coat of glossy paint. And maybe some new sound effects they found in a cooler basement.
I stumbled on this after getting bored of the same old loops in the standard versions. The name “Retake” intrigued me—like in film, where you do it again but better. Does it live up to that? Mostly, yeah.
If you’re here from the original and just want to see what’s new, skip the tutorial. Head straight for the icon that looks like a sparkling top hat (new!). Drag it in. That smooth, jazzy bass hit is Retake’s signature—it wasn’t in the old one. Pair it with the revamped snare (the circle icon, but it sounds crisper now) and you’ve got a groove that feels… professional? Well, as professional as a browser game about cartoon sounds can feel.
Look at that clean layout. The top hat is my MVP.
Where’s the Weirdness?
Okay, so the prompt was to make something “weird.” Retake is more about polish than pure weirdness, but you can still cook up some oddballs. Try this: Use the new “whisper” icon (the wavy line) as your base. Then, overlay the old classic “beep-boop” robot sound (they kept it, thank goodness). Finally, add the “reverse cymbal” effect (sounds like a record scratch going backwards).
What do you get? Something that feels like a secret transmission from a retro-futuristic spy movie. It’s weird, but in a cool, intentional way—not the glitchy weird of Not Sprunki.
As for Easter eggs, I’m not sure. The game feels so complete and upfront, I haven’t found any blatant secrets. Maybe the sparkles when you combo certain sounds? Could just be good design. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Can You Sell Your Loops?
The eternal question: Can I use my creations commercially? Ha. I mean, legally? Who knows. The sounds are probably remixed/ripped from other places or made by the modder. Ethically? If you make the next viral TikTok sound using Sprunki Retake, good for you. Send the modder a thank you note and maybe don’t put it in a paid app. Let’s call it a gray area (or is it grey? I can never remember).
Layering sounds is easier here. The UI doesn’t fight you.
What I love is the “feel.” Everything is snappier. The icons bounce better. The sounds don’t clip as much. It’s the difference between playing a game on an old computer and a new one. Same game, just… nicer. I have a soft spot for the jank of the original, but if I’m showing Sprunki to someone for the first time in 2024, I’d probably send them here, to Retake.
It’s the definitive version for people who don’t want “definitive” to mean “overly complicated.” Unlike some other mods—cough Sprunki But Opposite cough—this one knows what it is: a glow-up.
Final thought: The blue character’s new animation is hypnotic. I’ve wasted minutes just watching it. No shame.
