Yeah, you read that right. Phase 8.5. Not 9, not 8 definitive… 8.5. Found this while scrolling when I should’ve been working. The thumbnail was this weird, almost corrupted-looking purple guy, and I was like, “Alright, let’s give this 5 minutes.” Ended up messing with it for… maybe 20? Time flies when you’re making glitchy nonsense.
The core trick here—and I mean the ONE thing that makes it different from the regular Phase 8—is that dragging some of the new icons sideways changes the pitch in a super stuttery way. It sounds like a CD skipping, but in a… good way? My friend said it sounded like his old laptop dying, which he finds weirdly nostalgic. To each their own.
If you’ve played other mods like, I dunno, Sprunki Retake or that super popular Pyramixed thing, you’ll get the vibe fast. It’s less about making a smooth tune and more about creating chaotic, layered glitch-hop. Or noise. Depends on who you ask.
My Go-To Combo (That Most People Probably Hate)
Okay, don’t judge. Start with the new purple guy (bottom row, looks like he’s melting). Then add the green… thing that looks like a broken satellite. Then, and this is key, drag the yellow “static” icon from the top left but don’t drop it right away—wiggle it. You’ll get this rising siren-like effect that cuts out. It’s awful and amazing. I have no idea if this is a “popular” combo, but it’s my favorite.
Is it for long sessions? Nah. It’s a 10-15 minute thing. Perfect for when you’re waiting for a download or just need to smash some virtual buttons. After a while, the glitch sounds all start to blend into a sort of beautiful migraine.
I tried to use it to mimic rain, like that classic internet challenge. Failed spectacularly. Sounded more like bacon frying in a cyberpunk diner. Which, honestly, I’m not mad at.
Bottom line: If you’re bored of the clean sounds and want something that feels a bit broken, a bit experimental, Phase 8.5 is a fun little detour. Will it be updated? Who knows. Most of these mods just appear and then vanish. Enjoy it while it’s here.
