colorless a platformer - part 2
Colorless: a platformer - Part 2 | World Record Trials & Extreme Difficulty
Colorless: Part 2 is a high-difficulty precision platformer representing 60-70 hours of development over four months, featuring over 3,500 total blocks and 35 unique sprites. It supports competitive play through a World Record system that tracks both completion time and death count.
Players can access the Part 1 storyline via the options button for narrative continuity.
Comprehensive Control Scheme
Control schemes include arrow keys or WASD, with additional toggles: 'M' to mute/unmute music, 'R' to restart the level or return to the last checkpoint, and 'T' to show or hide the level number. A skip function ('Z') is available, but using it adds 10 deaths and disqualifies the run from World Record eligibility.
Performance optimization is built-in via LDM (Lag Defense Mode); accessible from the start menu, or by pressing 'L' in-game for a lighter version.
Trial of the Dark: Difficulty Tiers
The core experience revolves around the "Trial of the Dark," a multi-difficulty challenge with specific death limits:
- Easy: Unlimited deaths with no time bonus (skip disqualified).
- Medium: Less than 50 deaths, -50 second penalty.
- Hard: Less than 25 deaths, -100 second penalty.
- Extreme: Less than 10 deaths, -250 second penalty.
Failing a trial returns the player to the difficulty selection screen. Extensive hints and tips are provided for each trial level, including the location of a hidden Easter Egg (Trial 3-2, far right drop).
Technical & Credit Details
Known bugs include character clipping when using the map on changing platforms. The majority of the game (98%) is self-credits, with specific contributions for the stopnail, menu script, gem shape, and spinning blades. Music is provided by Josh Kramer, Vexento, and Two Steps from Hell.
