Arduous: a platformer - Precision Platforming with Speedrun Metrics
Arduous is a precision platformer featuring 9 challenging levels backed by Imagine Dragons' "Whatever It Takes." As the creator's second platformer project, it introduces a complete speedrun and deathless challenge system. The current world record within the dev team stands at 3 deaths with a clear time of 56.2 seconds utilizing zero skips.
Core Mechanics & Hidden Techniques
Core mechanics include flag-based level completion, spike avoidance, and trampoline bounces. Control schemes support both arrow keys and WASD. Unique movement tech is present—pressing left and right simultaneously triggers a moonwalk animation. Level skipping is mapped to the S key, while individual level restarts are bound to the Spacebar.
A critical execution note: restarting the entire game requires a double-click on the green flag, not a single click. Sound effects are present and volume-dependent. An undocumented secret is hidden in level one for explorers.
Progression & Community Milestones
The game tracks both your death count and a level timer, enabling self-improvement tracking. Community milestones are extensively documented: Top Loved status, #1 on trending games, over 5000 views, 400 loves, and 300 favorites as of May 2020. The developer has publicly committed to releasing Part 2 upon reaching 500 loves. Players are explicitly permitted to add this project to any studio.
If you enjoy precision platformers with built-in speedrun analytics, Arduous delivers a complete package.
